RATIONALE: Schizophrenic clients often display positive and negative symptoms. Negative symptoms are characterized by the absence of typically displayed emotional responses. Clients with these symptoms tend to respond poorly to medication. Positive symptoms, such as auditory or visual hallucinations, are characterized by enhancement of a sensory modality. These aren't physiologic symptoms of schizophrenia. Extrapyramidal symptoms may be seen with long-term antipsychotic drug use in schizophrenics.NURSING PROCESS STEP: AssessmentCLIENT NEEDS CATEGORY: Psychosocial integrityCLIENT NEEDS SUBCATEGORY: NoneCOGNITIVE LEVEL: Knowledge
